Steve Hay is the founder of Concrete Chemicals as it is today, a premier producer of pool pigments as well as the manufacturer of the original LiquiBlack. In the late 1990s, Steve answered the requests of pool plaster applicators to create whole new industry lines of powder and liquid pigments that have become the standards for many brands. He searched the globe for the highest quality pigments and experimented with many formulas to create the leading fade-resistant lines we have today. Although the business was initially founded in 1957 for the cement and concrete industries, it is through Steve’s leadership and vision that the company services both the concrete and pool industries, resulting in over half a million satisfied pool owners.
Spencer Mills has over thirty years of experience in business development, product management, and finance. He brings his creativity and passion for quality to the cement and pool industries. Most of all, he believes in fostering practical and authentic partnerships with both plasterers and ready-mix companies. He holds an MBA from Regent University in Virginia, and he has worked a lifetime in diverse customer facing fields, including real estate, food service, food manufacturing, government, and healthcare. A father of seven, Spencer divides his time between work, his family, teaching at the university, and his love for hiking and reading.
As General Manager of Concrete Chemicals, Doug Mills dedicates his time to making sure customers have what they need as soon as possible and resolves any concerns, no matter how small. He brings his passion for quality control systems, process improvements, and innovation to the plaster and concrete industries through continuous improvement in production and operations at Concrete Chemicals. He holds a BA degree in creative writing and Bible and theology from Jessup University in Rocklin, California, but has always had a passion for computers since he first started taking them apart when he was 15 years old. Doug has had a diverse career in technology, design, marketing, and gaming. He is the devoted father of two children and enjoys spending his time with them and his wife, Kimmy.
Jon Jon Lyssand is a veteran with Concrete Chemicals. His father was a general contractor, so Jon Jon was raised in a family steeped in the construction industry. Early on, he developed skill with tile and trim. He understands both the concrete industry and the pool plastering industry and has served in every capacity at Concrete Chemicals for much of his career. Jon Jon oversees the 3C Color Lab, a fast-paced workshop and testing site for color science, ingenuity, and creativity. Working with Founder Steve Hay, Jon Jon’s team of technicians blend a large array of organic and inorganic powders, as well as liquid pigments to achieve the hues, shades, and tints desired by a changing marketplace and the demands of plasterers for innovation, new approaches, and cost reductions. He is passionate about seeing plasterers succeed, satisfying both pool owners and pool builders.
